My NFL Draft Top 15

S Michael Griffin (Tennessee)
G Alex Boone (San Francisco)

LB Emmanuel Lamur (Cincinnati)
OT Andre Smith (Cincinnati)

Veterans Lost:

WR Mike Wallace (Baltimore)
S Robert Blanton (Buffalo)

Draft Picks:

WR Laquon Treadwell(Mississippi)

WR Moritz Boehringer (Europe)
TE David Morgan (UTSA)
OLB Stephen Weatherly (Vanderbilt)
S Jyayron Kearse (Clemson)

My Thoughts:

The Vikings did a pretty good job in free agency, identifying needs and going after it. They found two potential starting offensive linemen in Alex Boone and Andre Smith. Both have been starters over the past several years (Boone 58 starts last four seasons and Smith 68 starts last five seasons) and can elevate the Vikings offensive line if they come in focused and ready to go. Both players have their issues as well but the possible boon to the offensive line makes them interesting pick ups. I also like the Michael Griffin signing to provide great depth at the safety position and adding two veteran linebackers made a lot of sense. I am not a big Mike Wallace fan and believe the team added just be subtracting him from the mix and Robert Blanton was a disposable part at safety.

I love the Laquon Treadwell draft pick and I believe the Ole' Miss star receiver will emerge as the top receiver in Minnesota. He is big, athletic and aggressive getting after the football. I think Mackensie Alexander can play and with good coaching can start at the next level but he is likely a CB4 / CB5 this season. The rest of the draft picks look like depth players at this point although Moritz Boehringer from Germany with his blend of 6'4 size and 4.33 speed is a possible star if he takes to the nuances of the game. He will likely not contribute this year but a player to watch down the road.

Overall I think a good team at least stayed the course this season. They lost very little and picked up several possible upgrades to last year's starting mix. If Laquon Treadwell figures out the pro game early and the new offensive linemen step in as starters, the Vikings will be looking very strong heading into the 2016 campaign.
