My Thoughts:

The Patriots did a great job in free agency this year, emerging with several upgrades while losing very little in return. That is how the Patriots continue to dominate year after year, by making smart football decisions. Defensive end Chris Long of the Rams will step in and immediately give the Patriots a presence rushing in. He is a good veteran to plug and play into the rotation here and will thrive in the winning atmosphere in New England. Terrance Knighton is a solid, veteran interior defensive lineman that does his job well. He doesn't rack up stats but is a capable plug and play lineman. The cornerstone of their draft may be Shea McClellin, former defensive end who thrived in a linebacker role with the Bears over the past two years. He will have a chance to star in the interior of this very good defense. The only player the Patriots really lost of consequence in my opinion is Akiem Hicks but he won't be missed with the signing of Long.

I really didn't love the Patriots draft and do not see a lot of immediate help for this season although a few players are interesting. Top pick Cyrus Jones will be a nice 3rd/4th option at defensive back for the team and guard Joe Thuney will provide depth and could be a good starter if pressed into duty. The rest I see as purely depth players although I like the potential of both quarterback Jacoby Brissett and defensive tackle Vincent Valentine. Perhaps my favorite prospect here is 4th round receiver Malcolm Mitchell who has the tools of an elite receiver but injuries dropped him down the draft. There is a real chance for him to become the WR3 here early on.

Already a great team, the changes made in New England won't hurt them and very well may put them over the top towards another title. Great decisions.
