My Thoughts:

The Falcons did a good job in free agency this offseason with the addition of seven proven veterans, many of whom may start for the team in 2016. Sean Weatherspoon was an excellent linebacker for the Falcons from 2010 to 2013 when he started 41 games and had an impact on defense. Then he ruptured his achilles, missed the entire 2014 season and was ineffective with the Cardinals last year. At worst, Weatherspoon will add depth to the Will Linebacker position but I believe he will start over Philip Wheeler. Alex Mack is an upgrade at center for the Falcons after spending seven productive years with the Browns. Derrick Shelby quietly had one of the better defensive end seasons last year with the Dolphins and will be in the defensive end rotation for sure. He has no weaknesses in his game. Mohamed Sanu was brought in to replace an old Roddy White and Sanu brings a nice skill set to the team. He should emerge as the WR2 across from Julio Jones. Matt Schaub began his career in Atlanta from 2004 to 2006 and returns home to end his career. He will be a nice veteran to have backing up Matt Ryan.

The Falcons didn't lose too much off their 2015 roster. Roddy White, veteran receiver was released but he lost a few steps and is possibly heading towards retirement. Paul Soliai has had a long, productive career at nose tackle but at 34-years of age has his best days behind him.

The draft will add a few capable players to the starting / rotational group this year. Keanu Neal of Florida should start at strong safety this season and he has all the tools to be a top safety in the league. Deion Jones is a fast, athletic linebacker with great instincts and he looks poised to win the middle linebacker position. Austin Hooper will be a good NFL tight end but may take some time to emerge in Atlanta. He is currently behind an equally talented Jacob Tamme. De'Vondre Campbell will likely provide depth off the bench as will guard Wes Schweitzer.

All in all, I really like what the Falcons did this offseason. They improved in a number of areas including linebacker, defensive end and safety and will have a faster, more athletic defense in 2016. Expect some improvement from the Falcons this year as they push for a playoff spot in the competitive NFC South.
