My NFL Draft Top 15

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT - WR Michael Crabtree, Oakland Raiders

It is difficult to believe the Michael Crabtree is entering his eighth season in the NFL but it is true. He began his career back in 2009 as a tenth overall draft pick with the San Francisco 49ers after dominating in college with Texas Tech. Crabtree had the entire package. Great size, saavy route running and amazing hands and most people believed that a future star was on the way.

It never really materialized for Crabtree with the 49ers in his first three seasons although he did have his moments of success. He caught 176 receptions for 2246 yards and 12 total touchdowns in those three seasons but often seemed a step slow and without a burst to create separation on a consistent basis. However in 2012, Crabtree figured things out and caught 85 passes for 1105 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns and he appeared on his way to the stardom that was predicted. Unfortunately for him, he was injured in 2013, only playing in five games and in 2014 his played slipped back to his early NFL years.

In 2015, the 49ers and Crabtree parted ways and he moved on to the Oakland Raiders. Sometimes a player needs to be in the right situation to thrive and everything clicked in Oakland last year. He became an integral part of the Raiders passing attack, especially in 3rd down situations and near the goal line and young quarterback Derek Carr appeared comfortable with the veteran receiver. He caught 85 passes for 922 yards and scored 9 touchdowns, his best season since that 2012 campaign. He will never be a barn burner, and he will likely never average more than 14 yards per reception but as a dependable, move the chains and take focus off of talented youngster, Amari Cooper on the outside he is the perfect guy for this team.

Michael Crabtree has landed in the perfect situation for him to thrive within an offensive scheme. The question is what is the ultimate upside for him in regards to fantasy football. Last year's 85 receptions and 9 touchdowns ranked 17th in PPR fantasy leagues which puts him as a solid WR2. Because of the routes he will run and his lack of top end speed, it is unlikely Crabtree will average more than 13 yards per catch but his reception totals and ability to catch touchdowns gives him fantasy worth for sure. I currently have Crabtree as my 23rd best fantasy receiver in PPR leagues but his range puts him from 13th to 24th. He should be a safe option to start as a WR2 and he should get consistent looks from quarterback Derek Carr on a week to week basis. Crabtree is in the prime of his career and he is a solid fantasy football selection in 2016.
